Issue 3 is out!
|Issue 3 is now available in shops in the UK (WHSmith high street stores, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, McColls/Martin’s), and is on its way to newsagents around the world (including Barnes & Noble in the USA).
We take a look at the power of the Linux command line, Alan Turing’s pioneering achievements in the early days of computing, and the good work of the Free Software Foundation Europe. There are tutorials on wearable computing, searching for comets, genetic algorithms and virtual machines. There’s far more than we can mention here – take a look below for a full list of the contents.

- A quick reference to VIM
Thanks again!! Haven’t had a proper chance to look through it yet – but I really like the VIM cheatsheet. Also good to see mutt making an appearance as well – what a great email client.
Just wondering, does this issue come with a dvd? I saw some copies in a newsagent but unlike previous issues there was no dvd attached.
Nope, no DVD with issue 3. As we mentioned in earlier issues, we won’t be having a disc each month — only when there’s some big distro releases to bundle together.
Thanks Mike, just picked up a copy!
Not having much luck locating issue 3. Not found it at Sainsburys (2 large stores) or McColls. Are there issues with the distribution?
Hi Andy,
Try asking the store staff if they stocked the magazine — I know we’ve been selling out in some places. If those stores didn’t have issue 3 at all, please drop me a line (mike AT linuxvoice DOT com) and I’ll look into it. Thanks!
Hi
Competition entry details look a bit … absent, or am I being blind? Should there be a test.rb listing somewhere, or a URL to grab it from (or are we to code this to?)? And who do we mail entries / queries to?
Cheers
Steve
Hi there,
what I find a little worrysome is the scarcity of ads. Not that I enjoy ads… but put in the right context, your mag should be full of it, IMO. The VIM reference poster is GREAT, BTW. More of it, please.
with best regards
Jens
Hi Jens,
Don’t worry — we’re not dependent on ad revenue like many magazines. Sure, it helps, but it’s not a deciding factor in our existence. We’re still a young magazine and it takes time to get established, and we will have more (and relevant!) advertising in time. And I’m glad you liked the Vim cheat sheet — keep an eye on future issues for similar goodness 🙂
Mike
