Great! But why no Opus files?
Hello,
FYI: 51 Greatest things about free software 2014 comes up as No File for both Ogg and MP3.
Hi Rob,
Thanks for letting us know. It turned out there were some stray capital letters in the link. They should work now.
The link http://www.linuxvoice.com/lvaudio/lv001/mp3/LV001_p038_51bestthings.mp3 is still coming up with a 404 Page Not Found error. (This is from the RSS feed page: http://www.linuxvoice.com/lv_audio_version_mp3.rss)
Aha – it’s capitalization there, too. If I copy the link and change LV to lv it works.
Yea! Why no Opus files?
Nobody mentioned opus (other than Stuart) when we asked people to contribute recordings (http://www.linuxvoice.com/issue-1-audio-edition-beta/). As a result, it was simpler and easier to stick with mp3s and oggs, especially as these were (mostly) the only formats provided by our contributors.
Also, I didn’t want to ask people to use the command-line just to generate an opus file when they were already taking on a huge task.
Of course, you’re free to make your own opus files and share them here. I’m not sure opus makes sense for the individual recordings, but if you’d like me to generate an opus file for the entire issue recording (which would be significantly smaller than the current files), let me know and I’ll create one.
