Not your greatest hour.
Seconded. Beer and Linux go together, but not in that order.
My god does it feel good to hear you guys have some resigned laughs at the current UK situation and I hope you will fare well whatever becomes of it. That first piece of news about Firefox could however have been a bit more informed, since they have been blasting out tons of great announcements about actual improvements on for example the subreddit:
https://redd.it/4iqush
https://redd.it/43x6z0
https://redd.it/3dduuk
https://redd.it/4n5axb
https://redd.it/4mc4sz
https://redd.it/4o7xhp
https://redd.it/4ocrsh
https://redd.it/4o80fk
https://redd.it/4io5o7
https://redd.it/4q8q5t
https://redd.it/4qanan
It is pretty clear that they are working on a lot of the stuff you guys wanted to see and it’s good to see they are finally focusing a lot more on the actual features/performance instead of unliked interface revamps and useless hardwired extensions, but the upgrades are still going to be a rather gradual process of replacing existing browser parts so that the whole thing stays operational.
I think it is Nintendo’s responsibility to make sure that pokemons are not spawning in dangerous areas. For e.g. we had three Pokediots running around in a shooting range of the army, or others running around in a minefield in Bosnia. My neighbours backyard has become a famous hunting ground for rare pokemons, another one is overrun because his building is marked as arena. There are lots of people and cars there and blocking the street. Then we have Pokediots which are playing while they driving a car, which could be avoided by checking the moving speed with GPS.
All that could be prevented if they would have put some thought into it. But no, neither the lazy gits of developers nor Nintendo have taken care of it. So yes, they are responsible for the Pokediots actions. Including hunting pokemons in Ausschwitz, Dachau aso.
Man, I was laughing like a maniac during the ‘positive news’ section. You guys have wonderful senses of humour 🙂 Thanks for putting out such a great podcast when everything is depressing!
There was one overlooked bit in the Servo news.
You mentioned Rust as one of the more tangential Mozilla projects in contrast with Servo. But I believe Servo was one of the main reasons for creating Rust (and its unique brand of safe concurrency). It’s written in Rust.
seconded!
Just a thought, but I wonder if you’ve considered asking Stacey to join the podcast occasionally, to report on developments in the various creative and productive software apps (Scribus, Gimp, Krita etc). Her expertise and insight would be useful – and I remember when Effy’s creative input used to add a certain something to the mix. Not saying there’s anything wrong with the mix now; just thinking that it’s been a while since you trialled Scribus and I wondered if you’d be looking to report on it again. Stacey would be in a good position to do so.
For Graham:
Planète Linux still exists! after 18 years!

Thank you!! I hadn’t ever thought to look. It’s a real nostalgia trip looking at Planète Linux now – doesn’t seem to have changed at all! Really glad to see it’s still going.
