Linux Voice is launched
|Yes, it’s officially here. UK print subscribers started to get their copies last week, while issues are making their way to overseas subscribers. Everyone was sent an email with information about accessing the digital editions (email mike@linuxvoice.com if you didn’t receive yours), and today, Linux Voice issue 1 is available on UK newsstands.
To get a copy in the UK, go to WHSmith (high street stores), Sainsbury’s, Morrisons or McColl’s/Martin’s. We’ve also posted issues to newsagents in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Hong Kong, Malaysia, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, Spain and Sweden. These might take a while to get on the shelves, depending on the distance from the UK – so if you want to get your copy earlier in future (and save money), take out a subscription!
And finally: a big thanks to everyone who supported us and made this happen. It’s your magazine, made for and by the community, and we couldn’t have done it without you.
Woohoo. Hoping to pick up a mint issue 1 when they make it to Australia to go alongside the digital subscription. Sure it’s going to be a collectors item in a few years 🙂
Nice magazine, but I’m sorry that £5.99 in Smiths is just too much for casual readers.
Really? I think I paid more that in the late 90s for Amiga Format.
Quality is worth paying for. £5.99 is no more expensive than most other monthly computer mags.
It seems so long ago when you dropped the bombshell that you were leaving LFX and began the appeal for support for Linux Voice. What a ride! I’m so pleased you have made it. @Dave789q, even quite pedestrian magazines cost £5+ and for 114 pages (plus covers) and at the moment, very few advertisements, it looks wonderful value to me.
I’ve had my copy for a week now and have only got half way through so far. (Mind you, I’m a slow reader with morphine patches!)
I agree – about the good value that is 😉
Is it possible to buy a single digital copy?
Bought my copy from Sainsbury’s this morning. Fantastic read. Very much impressed.
Kudos to everyone involved.
My local WH Smiths isn’t stocking it and won’t be in the future I was told this morning. Luckily Martins round the corner had several copies. Only had a quick glance at the mag so far (3 day old new arrival) but I am impressed so far! Well done guys!
I was looking in Easons in Dublin, Ireland today. It was mentioned in a previous post, but no such luck.
+1 on that
Which Easons have you looked in? We were told that we’d be in 50 branches (Google says that there are only 50 branches of Easons) and that they should all be there by now.
Hi Andrew
I will check on Wednesday and confirm. I had checked in Dungarvan branch previously.
Actually – have just ordered my single issue on-line. Great idea to introduce this.
I can’t find a copy anywhere near Liverpool Street in London!! Help!
Hi Steve, there were four or five copies in WHS in the Westfield shopping centre in Stratford on Thursday evening. Good luck!
How do you obtain the DVD? None of the copies in my local WH Smith seemed to have one.
Picked up Issue 1 today. Love the design. A very good start and may it go from strength to strength Well done chaps!
P.S.: So that’s what happened to Nick Veitch!
Well done guys. Kudos for having the courage to takie the leap of faith in making the new magazine happen. A wondeful first issue and hopes for many more to come. Best wishes from Singapore.
Excellent mag, thanks.
Now that you are free from a corporation, what about dropping this stupid marketing habit of naming the mag 1 or 2 months earlier? Good linux mag tend not to do that in my opinion. (Linux Journal does not)
Regards,
Seb
Hi Seb,
UK newsagents do this for accounting purposes, so it’s not something we can change, sorry!
Also, in some territories, the (print) magazine will still be on-sale in April.
Thanks for the replying Mike & Graham.
Will live with it then!
Seb
It´s a great first issue!
Looking forward to next months Linux Voice 🙂
Where is the download iso, for the digital subscribers?

Just wondering. Is there somewhere to email corrections? Possibly for an updated digital version or for when the content is released under CC?
Hi,
We can’t keep remaking and re-uploading PDFs with every minor change sorry, or we wouldn’t have any time to work on the actual magazine! When we release the content under CC, it will be in a Git repository or a wiki, so everyone can make changes and updates. Thanks!
Awesome (about the Git/Wiki). Completely understand about updating PDFs. Shall make a note of them until then 🙂
Thanks
Andy
Really enjoying the mag although, does anyone else think it looks almost EXACTLY like Linux Format in the layout? Did you guys pinch a load of Templates before you left? Great to see you made it anyway.

forgot our URL!

Is the newsagent you have posted issues in Finland by any chance Lehtipiste?
As far as I know they are the only one that distribute magazines to shops in Finland… At least at this moment there is no mention of Linux Voice in their site, and I have not seen the mag in any store.
If I would know for sure it was them I could try to contact them to make sure that I get a copy to my nearest newsstand…
Great first issue , looking forward to getting the next one.
