Well done guys, exactly what I was hoping for! Great news and I wish you all the best of luck seeing it through!
Great idea, will cross my fingers that you hit your funding target in time.
*does a funky little dance*
I have a new geeky way to pass my evenings. Will you be looking for submissions for articles and tutorials?
We will — stay tuned!
Looks promising and exactly what I was hoping would happen!
Good luck with the new venture guys. Will you be reaching out to contribiutors?
Hi John,
We certainly will!
As soon as I heard, I was checking pennies in my piggy bank.
Wow, didn't see this coming
Been waiting with my credit card ready all lunch-time – signed-up right away.
Good luck guys, let's make this happen.
Fantastic News! I feel like a kid on Christmas morning
I was just wishing out loud with my recent speculative post on Linux Lifestye, but it all came true (save the part about Pink Ponies).
The announcement page is very well done and the intro video with Mike, Andrew and Ben is great. When I subscribed through Indiegogo, funding had easily passed 1k in the first 30 minutes.
If I can manage to get a refund for my US hardcopy subscription to Linux Format (which just renewed of course), Linux Voice will get that money too. Linux Format was the only hardcopy subscription that I've had in the last 10 years, I can not wait to see that stack become issues of Linux Voice.
Off to spread the good news, can't wait to see the first issue.
Open Sourcing a magazine? Brilliant idea!
Good luck guys, donation granted.
Very cool!! I sure hope you meet your goal. What I especially love about your work, is that you manage to mix in a good amount of fun and silliness while still providing sound content. If you want to learn Linux, and have fun doing it, then you guys are the ones to go to! I so hope this magazine will be realized. I have pledged a years subscription, and I will advice my geeky Linux friends to do the same. Best wishes from a Norwegian penguin
Well, there you go. I've stumped up £50, but opted for the digital subscription. I've got an overabundnace of dead tree in my flat, time to switch as much as I can to electrons, they're really tiny, you know.
Thanks
And be careful with those electrons. If they slip down the back of your couch, they're a devil to get out…
Here's hoping the target is reached. Any chance of you guys doing a weekly/monthly video podcast?
California Penguin, and his very close associates Sig_Interrupt and net-knave, have been spreading/supporting the good news about Linux Voice on other Linux/FOSS forums.
Unfortunately, none of us go near Facebook or Google so those of you who do, don't forget to _spread the news_.
Let's get some of that _viral_ stuff going for Linux Voice!
Mike, Andrew, Ben: 'Print Magazines are dead' is popping up in some of the threads announcing LV on other Linux/FOSS forums.
Might some of the viewers of the IGG page be missing the fact that digital only subscriptions to LV are an option? (Don't ask me how, IMHO the IGG page is great.)
Might it may be worth considering modifying the IGG page to highlight more prominently the digital only subscription option?
Just a suggestion, you guys know way more then I in all matters of print and web design, I defer to the experts.
Cheers California Penguin, that’ll be worth pointing out when we get to making the campaign updates.
It makes me laugh when people say that print is dying — we know that some people don’t want to pay for print, and that’s exactly why we made the digital sub so cheap. And anyway, the mathematics of £6.49 x 21,000 readers x 13 issues a year tells me that print is very far from dying yet. If we can capture just 10% of that readership, we’ll be winning
Buena suerte a mis ex-compañeros de trabajo en Linux Format. Estoy seguro que esta revista sera un exito.
Effy! No idea what you said, but…Effy!
This is one of the coolest comments here. Hi Effy!
This is great news! Congratulations. You guys should consider doing an interview on Floss Weekly. It would definately be a good way to get the word out.
This would be a cool idea! They've been doing a lot of FLOSS events recently so why not an upcoming British magazine? I'd love to hear the TuxRa- *ahem* Linux Lifesty- *ahem* Linux Voice gang with the FLOSS Weekly guys.
Would one of the Linux Voice staff be up for a Skype interview on the Linux Action Show or Linux Unplugged video/podcasts? Could be a good way to help get out the word on the LV start-up campaign.
Out here on the left coast of the US, these 2 weekly v/p-casts have a pretty big following among the Linux/FOSS enthusiasts.
Chris Fisher produces these shows (along with some others) thru his Jupiter Broadcasting company, a 1 man empire in the Seattle area. Chris is a big Linux/FOSS fan and he puts out amazingly professional shows given his resources IMHO. I've seen many Skype interviews, with and without video, in his shows.
It would be great IMHO if LV could get an interview as a platform to explain the LV differentiators from other Linux pubs (e.g. open community emphasis), etc. Possibly get Chris to do a weekly status check on the Indiegogo progress to keep the campaign in the news.
You can (attempt) to contact Chris by going to (jupiterbroadcasting dot com) and selecting the contact drop-down. Unfortunately, Chris regularly acknowledges that he can only get to about 10% of his tsunami of email.
If you have troubles contacting Chris, give me a shout out. I'm a paid subscriber and _may_ be able to get some attention by going thru the subscriber channel. FWIW, I've already made LV campaign noise over there, so hopefully you're already on the radar.
Congrats on the great kick-off to the startup campaign! Can't wait to see the first issue.
Well done guys and good luck with the new mag.
Folks, donating is only the first step. Afterwards, do your part in getting the word out! Write every Linux blogger you know, drop a line to your favorite Linux podcasters, put it on your own website, share it on IRC, and tell your friends! Every contribution counts!
Thanks for the tip. We've just started reaching out to other Linux podcasts, and they’re definitely on our list.
Great news, signed up straight away. Will you be offering a Lifetime Digital Subscription option?
I wrote a quick article for slashdot, and apparently its cool to ask you guys to upvote the submission
could mean some more publicity. Here is the link: http://slashdot.org/submission/3108123/linux-voice-aiming-to-be-different
