Ask Us Anything
|Ben, Mike and Andrew will do a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) this Friday, December 13th, at 4pm (GMT).
For people not on our fair isle, that corresponds to 11am in New York, 8am in Los Angeles, 3am in Sydney, 5am in Wellington and 5pm in Berlin.
Head over to http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/ at that time and you should find our thread. Anyone can read comments, but if you want to post, you’ll need a Reddit account. These are free and easy to set up, but you may wish to do it ahead of time.
We’ll be on for a while to answer questions about anything.
Obviously, with a global readership, no time is going to be great for everyone. If you can’t make it, have a read through the answers to see if someone else asked the question you’re interested in, but if it’s not there, feel free to contact us through the normal channels.
We're online at http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/1sstoz/we_are_the_creators_of_linux_voice_a_magazine/
Enjoyed the Reddit IAMA, thanks for taking the time Andrew, Ben, Mike.
One question I meant to ask in the IAMA but forgot, what were the factors that led you to choose Indiegogo over other crowd-funding sites?
[ I've been a big fan of crowd-funding and I've noticed that there seems to be a lot of sites cropping up recently. I was just curious what may be the major differentiators, if any. ]
Great, and thanks for your questions! Indiegogo takes a slightly smaller cut than Kickstarter (4% vs 5%), and also, Indiegogo's general approach seems more suited to projects like ours. We did think about starting our own crowdfunding platform, so that we could offer more than just PayPal, but ultimately we decided it'd be better to focus on making the mag itself.
Just to add to this, we wouldn't actually be allowed on kickstarter because that has to be for an individual product, not an ongoing thing like a magazine.
There are loads of smaller sites that we could have used, but when you're dealing with six-figure sums on money, it makes sense to go with a site you trust rather than some smaller one that may fold halfway through the campaign and take your money with it.
